Building Block is a L.A.-based bag and accessory brand, founded by the sister duo Kimberly & Nancy Wu in 2011. "Building Block" has two definitions in dictionary: 1). children's toy like LEGO; 2) something essential on which a larger entity is based. Both aspects are explored and demonstrated in Building Block's design: the clear-cut and geometric silhouette and the minimal, utilitarian pursuit.
Building Block intends to clear away conventional standards of luxury by magnifying what is essential and editing out excess. It achieves this by the exploration of unusual materials (e.g. wood and rubber) and edgy forms.
I love Building Block's bucket bag at the first sight. Its tassel is made of the highest quality among all I've seen. The vegetable-tanned leather sheds a subtle sheen and have a balanced softness while holding up its unique shape.
Rubber string eliminates the use of hardware and serves as strap and tight string at the same time, creating a natural, united design.
Below are some ingenious designs that I truly want to have all.
